otherwise known as the CDRP
(Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership)
Do you recognise this logo? (above right)
This is the logo representing the seven Crime & Disorder Partnerships operating throughout West Sussex. The seven partnerships are :
- Adur District Council
- Arun District Council
- Chichester District Council
- Crawley Borough Council
- Horsham District Council
- Mid Sussex District Council
- Worthing Borough Council
The joining of hands around the cluster of buildings is to symbolise the joining up of organisations within communities, with the aim to work together to make the community a safer place to live, work and visit.
Why were these Partnerships formed and by whom?
In 1991 a Government Home Office report, entitled the Morgan Report, raised the issue of the lack of an organised, analytical approach to prevent crime within communities. It suggested that organisations within communities work together, in partnership, pooling their resources and skills, to be more effective in addressing crime.
As a result of the Government's 1997 initiative ('Tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime'), the Crime & Disorder Act of 1998 was written. It aims to prevent, or reduce, crime and disorder levels at a local level and to deal with any offenders in an appropriate manner. The Act required each local authority to form partnerships to meet the aims of the Act and thus the Adur Crime & Disorder Partnership was formed in 1998. It was later renamed the Adur Community Safety Partnership, to directly link it in ownership to the community of Adur.
Which organisations make up the Adur Community Safety Partnership?
The Partnership has by law to have statutory partners within it. These are: Sussex Police, Sussex Police Authority, West Sussex Fire Brigade, Adur Arun and Worthing Primary Care Trust and West Sussex County Council. In addition Adur has other appropriate organisations as members, the DAAT (Drug Alcohol Action Team), YOT (Youth Offending Team), West Sussex Youth Services and West Sussex Probation Services.
What does the Adur Community Safety Partnership do?
In late 1998 early 1999, the partnership conducted a crime survey in Adur. Its findings were able to identify key crime areas that concerned the people of Adur. From these concerns a strategy was formed and work groups set up, of appropriate people and skills, to actively work and deliver the strategy.
