The Domestic Violence Working Group
About The Group :
Chaired by Guy Pace, the Domestic Violence Partnership Officer for West Sussex County Council, this 16 member group meet every 6 to 8 weeks.
With representation from such agencies as Sussex Police, Women's Refuge Services, Child Protection Services, Adur, Arun & Worthing Primary Care Trust and local solicitors, the group works to address the issues of domestic violence in the district.
What
is being progressed in 2005 :
Work is continuing on :
- A local Hospital based project: A successful multi agency funded project that identifies and supports adults who report domestic violence through the A&E and Maternity department of the local hospital.
- A West Sussex Perpetrators and Outreach programme running in partnership with the Probation Services.
- An Adur Drop In / Information Shop for DV victims to receive help and support.
- To establish a specialised Domestic Violence Advocate. A specialised advocate would be able to support a victim through the criminal justice process and to provide information and options to improve theirs, and their children's, safety.
- The delivery of DV awareness training to schools, councils, GP practices, Housing & Health visitors, pastoral leaders and the voluntary sector.
- Expanding the Floating Housing Support project, a project helping victims with practical support such as the security of their homes, personal safety, liaising with solicitors, benefits departments and police.
- A West Sussex DV Policy and the training of personnel officers. It is hoped that the policy will be adopted by all District Councils, and private businesses, in West Sussex.
