The Adur Community Safety Partnership

The Adur in Partnership Young People & Children's Partnership

About The Group :

District Commander for Adur, Chief Inspector Sharon Rowe chairs this group.

The group has a strong membership that includes: Sussex Police, West Sussex Education Welfare, the West Sussex Youth Offending Team, Social Services, Adur District Council, Heads of various Adur Schools, West Sussex Children's Fund and the West Sussex Drug & Alcohol Action Team.

This group is the result of the merger of the young people's sub group of both Adur in Partnership (LSP) and the Adur Community Safety Partnership.

Meeting every four to six weeks, this varied cross section of members works to deliver a comprehensive response to the issues of young people in Adur.

What is being progressed in 2005 :

Work is continuing on :

  • The West Sussex Action Against Bullying strategy becoming a County policy and a part of every West Sussex school curriculum.
  • The introduction of a Sussex Police Safer Schools Partnership Officer. Working within schools in the district, the Officer will work with young people to help prevent or alleviate anti social behaviour whilst providing a vital link between the young people, the police, parents and teachers.
  • Providing 'Positive Parenting' sessions in the district , enabling young parents and single mothers to receive practical help and guidance.
  • The promotion of healthy lifestyles and good citizenship to young people in schools, including the Annual Junior Citizenship Conference.
  • Reducing deprivation and poverty, especially in areas which have a higher young people and children population.
  • Developing new projects such as World War Two Cookery Classes, bringing the older and younger generations together, developing a video project helping young people learn visual arts and film production skills, supporting the continuation of the West Sussex Rock Challenge, a musical competition developing young peoples interactive and team building skills whilst creating music.
  • The planning of another 'Firebreak' project. Run by the West Sussex Fire & Rescue Services, the project aims to re-educate young people on the dangers of arson, whilst building interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Truancy initiatives to encourage, and ensure, young people are attending and receiving regular schooling.
