Alcohol and drugs support in Adur
Important
points to think about
If you have worked your way through this drugs section to reach here hopefully you have been able to find out more about illegal drugs.
To finish off there is a short quiz, but unfortunately no prizes!
Before that here are one or two important points to think about :
- If you use illegal drugs you can never be sure exactly what you are taking, or how strong it is.
- Even if you have used a drug before, the effect is not always constant, as it can be influenced by other factors. This is particularly dangerous following a period of abstinence.
- It is usually very dangerous to mix different drugs, including alcohol.
- Users become tolerant to some drugs, and need increasingly large amounts to get the effect they want.
- Drugs affect different people in different ways.
- Solvent abuse kills at least one young person a week. Even the first attempt can be fatal.
- Injecting can be one of the most dangerous ways of taking drugs, as it is linked to infections, abscesses and thrombosis, gangrene and overdose. In the longer term there is a high risk of becoming infected with Hepatitis C or HIV if you share needles etc.
