Consultation
Election cycles
Adur District
Council would like to consult with residents on how it currently conducts
its elections. At the moment ADC operates a system which is known as elections
by halves; this means every Councillor serves a four year term, during that
time half of the Councillors seats will be put up for election and then in
two years time the other half.
Recently legislation was introduced that now gives us the option to change the way we currently operate and see if we want to change to the scheme for whole council elections. If whole council elections were to be chosen every Councillor serving would be put up for election at the same time.
The Council has asked one of its committees, Overview and Scrutiny, to investigate and recommend whether it should move to elections of the whole Council every four years starting from 2011. To enable them to make a decision they need to gather the views of as many people as possible. The Overview and Scrutiny Committee would appreciate it if you could take time out to complete the questionnaire to assist with their consultation.
The consultation period is now closed (ended 12-12-2008) - thank you to those who took the time to complete the questionnaire.
