About Councillor Janet Mockridge

My interests / hobbies :

I have had a career as a surveyor, being employed by the D.O.E. and the G.L.C. and for 11 years as head of department for an international Seismic Company. Later I joined my husband in private practice. My interests are primarily my family but also sailing and D.I.Y.

When and why I have become a councillor :

I have a great interest in the built environment and believe that as a seaside town we should be improving the leisure facilities that we have to offer and removing all the pollution producing practices from our neighbourhood. There are many brownfield sites locally and with imagination they could be developed to enhance our local community. Think what another "Eden Project" on the site of our old cement works could do. Also expand sailing, surfing and rowing facilities in the harbour. All of these assets could be developed to bring skilled, well-paid jobs to our area.

When can you meet me?

You can make an appointment to meet me using the contact details above.

What would I like to achieve as your councillor :

Due to my husband's illness I have a greater insight into the health provision locally and am aware of its shortcomings, and I will campaign for improvements in the care of patients and provision of facilities for the disabled.

I am involved with local issues and helped my husband in his council work and will work hard to continue with the many local issues with which he was concerned. I would like to make a contribution to the local community, which gave us so much help and support when he was alive.

My current role on the council :

I am serving on the Development Control Committee, Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee and the Standards Committee.
