Key Issues on waste and recycling :
- 85% of residents are currently on the blue box scheme
- The blue box 'put out' rate is 68%, i.e. over half of residents that
could use the blue box scheme do so
- ' Bring sites' are provided for residents that are not on a kerbside
scheme and for those living in flats
- Adur residents recycled 4502.15 tonnes of waste (which includes green
waste) from April 2007 - January 2008
- The total domestic waste from April 2007 - January 2008 =
11,791.52 tonnes
- The current recycling rate in Adur is 25.14%

The introduction of the new wheeled bin service in April 2008 will :
- Increase the quantity of household waste actually recycled
- Increase the amounts of garden waste sent for composting
- Reduce the quantity of residual waste that cannot be recycled or composted
which is sent to landfill
- Existing landfill sites in West Sussex will be full up within five years
