  • B/Ds : bureaux and departments
  • B2B : business-to-business - as in businesses doing business with other businesses
  • B2E : Business to employee
  • BAA : British Airports Authority
  • BACC : Broadcasting Advertising Clearance Centre
  • BACS : Banks (or Banking) Automated Credit System
  • Bandwidth : Bandwidth refers to how much data is transmitted over a given period of time. For digital devices, bandwidth is measured in bits per second (bps - see below). For analogue devices, bandwidth is measured in Hertz (Hz).
  • BAP : Bandwidth Allocation Protocol
  • BAP : Biodiversity Action Plan
  • BAR : British American Racing
  • BAS : Brake Assist System
  • BAT : Best Available Techniques
  • BAU : Business As Usual
  • Bayard : A European Partnership (UK/Belgium/France) of authorities to develop and share best practice in Local Government
  • BBC : British Broadcasting Authority
  • BBS : Bulletin Board System
  • BC : Borough Control
  • BC : Building Control
  • BCA : Basic Credit Approval
  • BCC : Behaviour Change and Communication
  • BCC : Blind Carbon Copy
  • BCE : Before the Common Era (as opposed to BC)
  • BCODP : British Council of Disabled People
  • BCS : British Computer Society
  • BCS : British Crime Survey
  • BCU : Basic Command Unit
  • BDA : British Deaf Association
  • BDA : British Dyslexia Association
  • Beacon Councils : The best performing local government councils selected by the government that set the pace for change and encourage the rest to modernise.
  • BECTA : British Educational Communications and Technology Agency
  • BEIFT : Behold, Every Indicator Forebodes Trouble; pronounced "beefed"
  • Best Value : A duty for local government to deliver services to clear standards - covering both cost and quality by the most effective, economic and efficient means. Performance indicators measure the achievement of the standards. The purpose is to seek means of achieving continuous improvement in service delivery.

  • blog : A weblog. intr.v. blogged, blogging, blogs. To write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog.

  • BOM : Byte Order Mark

  • BP : Before Present
  • BPEO : Best Practicable Environmental Option
  • BPIF : British Print Industry Federation
  • BPM : Business Process Management
  • BPR : Business Process Reengineering
  • bps : 'bits per second' - the standard measure of data speed or data transmission. This is measured by how many bits of data are transmitted or received over a one second period (see also kbps, mbps, gbps).
  • BRDC : British Racing Drivers' Club
  • BRE : Building Research Establishment
  • BRM : Business Relationship Management
  • Broadband : This term is loosely used to describe high-speed Internet access. (See also ADSL).
  • BSA : Basic Skills Agency
  • BSA : Business Software Alliance
  • BSB : British Superbike(s)
  • BSI : British Standards Institute
  • BSL : British Sign Language
  • BT : British Telecom
  • BTW : By The way
  • BUC : Browser Upgrade Campaign
  • BUFVC : British Universities Film and Video Council
  • BURA : British Urban Regeneration Association
  • BURA : The British Urban Regeneration Association
  • BV : Best Value - see above
  • BVPI or BVPIs : Best Value Performance Indicator(s)
  • BVPI157 : the central government measure of 'e-enablement', that customers should be able to access services electronically or, if not, that the call centre they speak to can log events 'in a system there and then'. (In Adur we have interpreted this generally to mean that services should be available 24/7 from the website.) Adur achieved 98% against this target by December 31st 2005.
  • BVPIG : Best Value Performance Indicator Group
  • BVPP : Best Value Performance Plan
  • BVR : Best Value Review
  • BVWN : Best Value Waste Network
  • BWW : British Waterways
