Pavements (or footways)
These generally have a paved or hardened surface and can be, but are not always, adjacent to a roadway.
West Sussex County Council is responsible for the pavements (or footways) in the district. You can report pavement (or footway) faults by calling : (01243) 642105 or by using the WSCC highways and transport on-line fault reporting system (www.westsussex.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=9576) with on-line forms for reporting problems with : streetlights / signs, bollards, pot holes, footpath trip hazards, flooding, traffic signals and more ...
Public rights of way
Public rights of way include: Public footpaths, public bridleways and public by-ways.
These are generally unsurfaced or have a loose surface and are normally not adjacent to a roadway.
West Sussex County Council is responsible for enforcement of public rights of way in the district and also has some responsibility for public footpaths, public bridleways and public by-ways. The South Downs National Park can also provide information about
public rights of way on the Sussex Downs within the AONB (Area of Outstanding
