Customer Housing Survey
MP Grant Shapps issued a statement in July 2010 that stated "The Coalition Government is committed to shifting power away from Whitehall and back to local authorities and communities, and in doing so, reducing centrally imposed burdens and freeing up resources for front line services. Having considered the views on the Survey which have been put forward to me, I have decided to scrap the Place Survey. You will no longer be expected to report against the National Indicators previously measured by the Survey. I have also decided to abolish the Tenants (STATUS) Survey. Stock holding authorities will no longer be expected to report against National Indicator 160 (local authority tenants’ satisfaction with landlord services). As a good landlord I know that you will do whatever is necessary to ensure that your tenants are satisfied through your own local measures. I anticipate making further announcements in the weeks and months ahead on how we can go further on cutting central bureaucracy and ensuring accountability to the public, not Whitehall."
We were previously required by central government to carry out a survey of tenants every other year The survey was based on a standard set of questions, in order to compare like with like, over time, and against other local authorities.
A Standardised Tenant Satisfaction Survey (STATUS) was carried out every two to three years.
