What are allotments?
General
The Parks Section of Adur District Council administer
13 allotment sites throughout the area. Although the allotment sites vary
in size and nature the majority of individual plots are around 5 rods.
What is a 'rod' or 'hectare (Ha)'?
A rod is an ancient land measurement of approximately 5m in length, a square rod being 25 square meters and a '5 rod allotment' being 125 square meters.
A hectare is a metric unit of area equivalent to 0.01 square kilometres, 10,000 square metres or 2.471 acres.
Availability
Allotments are available for any resident of Adur over the age of 18. There are waiting lists for all of our sites, and you must be an Adur resident to be added to the list. The waiting time for a plot can be between 6 months to five years depending on the site.
Please note that due to the length of our waiting lists, as from 25/02/09 all applications will be limited to one site only.
