Gravity Mission Statement

Gravity is a dynamic, interactive youth arts initiative offering opportunities for young people to come together, gain new creative, technical and transferable skills in dance, DJ'ing, music production and VJ'ing. This innovative partnership project addresses issues relevant to young people, including community safety and health awareness, in West Sussex to shape policy developments.

Gravity Project

Gravity is a youth arts project for 14-18 year olds living in the districts of Adur, Horsham and Mid-Sussex.

Gravity is based around club culture, the aim of the project is to offer opportunities for young people living in rural and coastal areas to experience modern 'street arts' like, DJ'ing, Street dance and Music production. These young people are 'pulled' into places like Brighton, Crawley and London because there is no provision for them in their hometowns; hence the name Gravity.

We offer them the chance to learn a new art, meet new people and develop their social and teamwork skills. We don't just want to teach them, we also want to give them chances they would not normally get, like DJ'ing in a night club, performing dance routines, managing and promoting their own event.

Gravity is for young people, by young people

There has been over 130 free DJ, Music production, Street dance and VJ workshops since the start of the project in July 2001.

We now have the added benefit in Adur of having the funding to tell the young people about heath awareness and supply, encourage and introduce the young people to healthy foods.

We have an excellent database of artists. We use both male and female industry professionals, who between them have worked with artists and companies such as : Kylie Minogue, Misteeq, Faithless, Moby, Dave Clarke, DJ Luck and MC Neat, Top of the Pop's, MTV, & BBC Radio 1.

We find that using these artists inspires and excites the young people, they get to work with people who have worked at the top. They learn very quickly because they listen and respect the artists.
