Libraries
You can get access to the internet at local libraries in the Adur district.
There is a charge for using this service :
- £2.00 per hour (or £1 per half hour)
- or you can take out an annual county wide subscription which costs £12
and gives you unlimited use at any library in West Sussex that has computers
(Note : prices correct as at February 2007).
Printing facilities are available and you will be charged 10p per A4 sheet.
The computers are normally turned off 15 minutes before the libraries shut.
There is no booking system for using the computers and they are allocated on a first come first serve basis. They operate a one hour on one hour off time system to ensure that as many people as possible can access the PCs (so that one person doesn't stay on it all day long).
Short courses are sometimes run using the computers and when a course is running general access will not be available. Further details are available from the libraries.
The
library service is run by West Sussex County Council, not by Adur District
Council.
For more information about libraries in Adur including opening times and contact details please see our libraries webpage.
Self Service Zone at the Civic Centre
You can now access the internet at the Civic Centre (during office hours) on three free to use computers linked to the WWW. Two of these are based in the foyer of the Civic Centre in the 'Self Service Zone' and the third is in an adjoining waiting/service area.
The Self Service Zone is not just a facility to provide internet access but is a zone of self service. Customers can come into the zone and using the information on the walls and the relevant leaflets provided, find out about council activities and in many cases this removes the need to queue up at the Help Point. 'How to begin a Housing benefit claim', 'finding out what your Council Tax will be', 'discovering if you need Planning permission' are all part of a range of items where customers can help themselves.
Internet cafés
You can also search for internet cafés using the 'Up my street' website. Instructions :
- Open the 'Up my street' website
- then type in the name of your town (for the Adur area use Shoreham-by-Sea or Lancing)
- then click the 'Go!' button
- then click on the 'FindMyNearest...' link
- then click on the 'Computers & the Internet' link under 'Browse the directory'
- then click on the 'Internet cafes ' link
- you will be given a page showing 'Businesses in the area' that provide this internet cafe service with their company/organisation name, address and contact details and a link to a map of where they are.
These internet cafés will probably all make a charge for using their services and you should contact them to find out opening times and costs involved before travelling to their premises.
