Lancing man convicted of benefit fraud

A Lancing man pleaded guilty to benefit fraud at Worthing Magistrates Court on Monday (16/10/06). Adur Council prosecuted Clive Parsons,35 of Addison Close for falsely claiming £568.60 in housing benefit.
Mr Parsons had failed to tell the council, when completing benefit forms that he was receiving an industrial injuries disabled benefit. The offence was discovered as a result of information available on the Governments benefit data matching service.
After hearing the facts in the case Mr Parsons was sentenced to a one year conditional discharge and ordered to pay the councils prosecution costs of £592.50.
Housing and Central Services Chairman, Julie Searle said: People who claim benefits fraudulently are taking council tax payers money costing the country millions of pounds every year. If you suspect anyone of benefit fraud call us in complete confidence.
