Marina plans back on agenda
Ref : 06/100 : Date : 23-10-2006
Shoreham Port Authority's plan to build a new marina and create 1,000 new jobs within a canalside business village in Shoreham Harbour is back on the planning agenda for 30 October 2006.
This is the third time Adur Council's planning committee will have considered this application.
The last time, on July 31 this year, the planning committee asked the Port Authority to change the plan (which is in five phases) to the first phase of the development only. The Port has considered this, but have not changed the application, and it will go before the planning committee unchanged.
The Port Authority has written to the council saying they would favour an appeal for non-determination by the council.
The proposed development will have two marinas, a new eastern marina complete with a new access road and dry boat storage, and a rearranged western marina.
Part of the plan includes a colonnaded courtyard planned surrounded by buildings for commercial, leisure, food and drink use.
A further business development with larger employment potential with buildings suitable for hi-tech businesses, restaurant/leisure and retail use is also planned.
The Port says it will provide high-quality architectural and landscape design using materials right for the maritime environment.
Phase one of the development would be the redevelopment to the frontage of the buildings on Albion Street, next to the old town hall, closing off the existing access road to create a pedestrianised area.
