Wear a white ribbon in Adur
Ref : 06/109 : Date : 20-11-2006
White Ribbon Day on 25 November is a special day around the world dedicated to raise the public’s awareness of domestic violence.
People who would like to support this international campaign can call into Adur Council’s Civic Centre and pick up a white ribbon.
The Women’s Refuge project in Adur provides support, help and advice to people affected by domestic violence. Domestic violence not only affects women and children. Figures show that violence towards men is on the increase. Home Office statistics show one third of domestic violence victims are men.
In November 1999 a resolution was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, designating 25 November as the international day for the elimination of violence against women.
This week in the UK alone two women will die as a result of domestic violence. Globally, violence against women causes more deaths among females aged between 15 and 44 than traffic accidents, malaria, cancer or war.
People can call the Womens Refuge Project and speak to someone in complete confidence on 01273 263414.
