Domino
effect could get Shoreham Renaissance going
Ref : 06/112 : Date : 28-11-2006
Adur Council plans to get the Shoreham Renaissance project, to regenerate the town centre, off the ground using the domino effect.
The
council wants to increase the number of parking spaces available in the car
park at Pond Road in Shoreham. It will then be in the position to release
the smaller car park in Ship Street in Shoreham for development, without
any loss of parking spaces in the town centre.
Age Concern, Red Cross and the Adur Special Needs Project currently occupy portacabins in the Pond Road car park. These temporary buildings are dated and coming to the end of their lives. It is hoped alternative space will be found in the town centre for these organisations.
This would leave the way clear to demolish the portacabins and resurface the area for car parking.
A recommendation in a council report, which will be considered next week, wants an application to be made for planning permission of Ship Street car park. This would be for a small residential development in keeping with the area and is likely to be for three or four terraced houses which would then ‘repair’ the frontage of the street
The council would then be able to sell the land with planning permission for an estimated figure of between £250,000 to 350,000.
Adur Council Leader, Neil Parkin, said : “We are determined to keep the momentum of Shoreham Renaissance going. This is just one of the many smaller schemes which will help complete the bigger picture.”
