Council hits lottery jackpot
Ref : 07/020 : Date : 19-02-2007
Adur Council, working with local communities, has hit the lottery jackpot
with a £200,000 win. The big lottery announced today a £12 million
investment in children’s play across England. Adur is one of 32 local
authorities to receive a ‘lottery win’. The money will be spent
on two great new play projects for young people and children in the district.
Shadwells Park in Lancing will get £65,000 for a modern exciting new play area, expected to be open this summer. Local residents group the Mash Barn Residents Association have worked with the council on the project.
The new skatepark planned for the Ham recreation ground in Shoreham will get £135,000. Over 40 local skateboarders and BMX bikers have got involved with this project looking at designs and layouts and ways to improve access.
The skatepark will need planning permission and an application is likely to be submitted to council planners soon. If all goes well Shoreham will have its first USA inspired skatepark, but built in the UK .
Council Leader Neil Parkin said: “As a father myself I am absolutely thrilled we have got this money to spend on providing great new facilities for our children and young people. We already have some great parks in this area and these two new projects will give the district a real boost.”
The bid, which was made last year, was backed up by the council’s play strategy which highlighted the need for more free play facilities in the district for children and young people.
