Good Communcation Awards 2007 logoCouncil website receives national recognition

Ref : 07/053 : Date : 06-06-2007

Adur Council's website www.adur.gov.uk received national recognition for its accessibility when it came second in the Good Communication Awards 2007 (30/05/2007).

www.adur.gov.uk was recognised for its outstanding progress in the 'Website Accessibility' category in using technologies to extend the delivery of information and services to include traditionally hard-to-reach groups, such as people who are disabled.

The Good Communication Awards promotes and encourages the public sector’s efforts towards effective communication with residents and staff. Entry is open to local authorities, central government departments, community or voluntary groups and recognises excellence in communications and joined up government.

Adur Council chief executive, Ian Lowrie, said : “It’s always good to have the work of the council recognised and this is a great example of a small authority with limited resources and money competing with the ’big players’ and succeeding. It is a real tribute to the very small number of staff who make this happen."

Over the last year additional new features have been added to improve accessibility such as enhanced keyboard navigation and link focus aids which allow people to move around the website without using a mouse.
