Fit for the future? No - Think again
Ref : 07/105 : Date : 06-11-2007
Adur Council totally rejects the three ‘Fit for the Future’ proposals currently on the table and says the Primary Care Trust must think again about our hospitals and health services.
A report, commissioned by Adur and Worthing Councils, by health consultant Linda Phipps criticises in detail each of the three proposals themselves. The report talks about the transport problems and sheds doubt on how the costs stack up. It also slams the whole consultation process adopted by the PCT.
This report is the council’s official response to the consultation. People can read it on www.adur.gov.uk/committee/com-docs-fc.htm
Adur’s councillors back the KWASH campaign to keep our hospitals for local people and they reject any proposals to downgrade these services.
Council’s Leader Neil Parkin joined all the council leaders in West Sussex in a united response asking the Primary Care Trust to think again. He said: “In light of the overwhelming response to the consultation it would appear the PCT may think again. They have now admitted they got it wrong on the transport front and may well look at other options put forward – let’s wait and see.”
Last month Adur residents told us what they thought of the proposals at a consultation event held at Boundstone Community college.
People said they :
- Wanted to keep the A&E department at Worthing hospital
- Were concerned about how long it would take to get to St Richards in
- Chichester or to Brighton by public transport. The lack of public transport, the cost of it and the traffic congestion on the A27
- Were worried about any movement of maternity or paediatric care.
- Were concerned about how options two and three would affect jobs and house prices in the area.
