Hilary Benn asked to help RNLI

A letter is winging its way to Secretary of State, Hilary Benn, from Adur Council to ask him to de-register a small part of the Kingston Beach Village Green so the RNLI can build their new boathouse.
The RNLI have already received planning permission for the new boathouse but because the new Tamar class lifeboat is bigger than the old one more space is needed. Having already explored other options this is seen as the only suitable site.
To get the land de-registered requires the council, as landowner, has to apply to the Secretary of State for the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural affairs.
In its application the council said building the new lifeboat station is in the public interest and the council considers the service provided by the RNLI to local residents and anyone that uses the sea vital for saving lives.
Council Leader Neil Parkin said: “We all know what a fantastic service the RNLI gives to the community and their tremendous record for saving lives. Getting this small bit of land de-registered will allow the RNLI to build their new lifeboat station and carry on their vital work.”
