23 new affordable homes proposed for Lancing
Ref : 07/119 : Date : 04-12-2007
A proposed development of 23 new affordable homes could replace a sheltered housing scheme, Burdwood House in Lancing, which is in bad structural condition.
The proposed development of 17 one bedroom and 6 two bedroom homes has been submitted to Adur District Council by the Rosemary Simmons Memorial Association. Five of the new homes would be earmarked for people with learning disabilities or mobility problems with on-site support and communal facilities. 11 car spaces are also allowed for.
Owners of the current home say the building is in poor condition and requires constant expensive maintenance and it does not comply with current sheltered housing standards.
Balconies facing the sea are featured in the new development which is spread over two and three storeys.
Both West Sussex County Council and Adur District Council have agreed that if the proposed development goes ahead they will commit financial support to it. Adur Council is working with the housing association to assist them to find suitable homes for the four tenants left at Burdwood House, who have also been offered the chance to return after the development is completed.
The plans can be viewed at the Civic Centre, Ham Road, Shoreham by Sea. Comments should be sent to the planning services manager by 4 January 2008.
