14 eco friendly flats could replace former garage in Shoreham

A former garage in Shoreham could be knocked down and replaced with a 'Ropetackle' style development of 14 eco friendly apartments.
A planning application for the redevelopment of Ballamys garage on the east side at the bottom of Old Shoreham Road in Shoreham has been submitted to Adur District council. The proposed development is for 13 two bedroom flats and one, one bedroom flat with 14 car spaces and dedicated cycle spaces. The West Street block will have wheelchair access to all flats with a communal wheelchair accessible lift.
The development is slotted between the Old Shoreham Road and West Street. The West Street side has been designed to resemble two terraced houses in keeping with the street. And the Old Shoreham Road side has a similar look to the Ropetackle development including timber balconies and some porthole windows.
The developers say that the buildings will be orientated to respect neighbouring properties and minimise overlooking.
Modern methods of building will be used which are said to reduce construction waste and reduce carbon footprint. The applicants expect the building to achieve a BREEAM Ecohomes rating of ‘excellent’.
The plans can be viewed at the Civic Centre in Shoreham and any comments should be sent to the planning services manager by 4 January 2008.
