Lifeboat station step nearer
Ref : 08/022 : Date : 10-03-2008
A new lifeboat station on Kingston Beach has moved a step closer and a village green a step nearer for people living in Williams Road, Shoreham
The RNLI need extra land to build the new station but because Kingston Beach is a village green this meant asking the government’s planning inspector to deregister the necessary land to enable work to start. The planning inspector told Adur Council it would have to find another piece of land to replace the loss of part of the Kingston Beach village green.
A search for suitable land took place and three made the shortlist: Southwick Beach, Beach Green, Shoreham and Williams Road, Shoreham. Adur’s councillors have agreed that Williams Road is the best option and the council will now seek the planning inspector’s approval.
Housing and Central Services Chairman, Julie Searle said: “I think this is a good solution. The RNLI will be able to build their life boat station and the residents of Williams Road will have a village green.”
