Industrial action - Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th July

Ref : 08/058: Date : 08-07-2008

UNISON logoThere is planned national industrial action by UNISON on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th July that may affect local Council services.

Recycling, refuse and waste collections

Adur and Worthing Council Services anticipates that NO household refuse or recycling collections will take place on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th July.

  • Wheelie binsHouseholds expecting a refuse or recycling service on either of these two days are asked not to place bags, boxes or wheeled bins out for collection.
  • Households who currently receive weekly collections on Wednesday or Thursday will have no collection during the week commencing 14th July.
  • Households who would normally have received a fortnightly recycling collection on either 16th or 17th July will receive a one-off collection on Saturday 19th July. This will prevent the need for these householders to store recyclable material for four weeks. Please leave your recycling bins available for collection in the normal position.
  • Collections are expected to return to normal the following week commencing 21st July and restrictions on side waste will not apply during that week.

The Household Waste Recycling Sites in Dominion Way, Worthing and Brighton Road, Shoreham will remain open for the duration of the industrial action and householders can take their excess waste free of charge to either of these facilities.

Ken Green, Executive Head of Recycling and Waste Management, said : “Adur and Worthing Council Services apologises for any inconvenience these arrangements will cause local residents, but these are only being implemented for reasons beyond our control. We would like to thank our residents in advance for their patience and co-operation during this period of disruption to the services.”

Other services

It is anticipated that all other council services will be provided as usual but customers are advised that some services may be a little restricted.
