Our beautiful ‘launderette’
Grand opening by Tim Loughton MP at 3.15pm on Friday 24 October
Ref : 08/087 : Date : 14-10-2008
An old launderette in Laylands Road, Fishersgate, has been given a new lease of life and turned into a community venue thanks to Adur District Council and West Sussex County Council.
This community project is set right in the heart of Fishersgate and will help improve the quality of life for local people.
Local groups will be able to use ‘the laundry’ for meetings and other agencies and organisations will provide services that people want.
West Sussex County Council’s children's service will provide advice and information and will use the venue as a base until the Children’s Centre opens next year. Other services available at the launderette will include Citizens Advice Bureau, adult learning and a local police surgery.
Adur’s cabinet member for health, safety and wellbeing, David Simmons said: “I’m very pleased we have been able to provide a base in Fishersgate for local people which will allow them to have the benefit from a wide range of services.”
