Full speed ahead for RNLI
Ref : 08/098 : Date : 01-12-2008
It's
full speed ahead for the new RNLI lifeboat station now that Secretary of
State Hilary Benn has agreed to the de-registering of village green land
at Kingston Beach.
The RNLI needed extra land at Kingston Beach to house their new boat and Adur Council applied to the government for permission to de-register the land needed.
Planning inspectors told Adur Council they would have to find alternative land which would replace the area of Kingston Beach. Councillors chose some open land at Williams Road in Shoreham and now this will become a village green.
Adur Council Leader, Neil Parkin said: “Great news all round - now the RNLI can go ahead and build their boathouse and residents at Williams Road will have their 'village green'. A lot of effort has been made by the council to push this forward and we are pleased with the result.”
Ends
