Shoreham Farmers' Market - the best in Sussex

The scheme to find the best in Sussex asked people to vote for their favourite farmers market as well as food and drink producers, restaurants, butchers, food shops.

Shoreham Farmers' Market was announced the winner of the Best Farmers market in Sussex at the Sussex Food & Drink Awards held on Thursday 29 January 2009.

The market is run by Adur Council’s town centre co-ordinator, David Steadman. He said: “It is great news to hear that Shoreham Farmers' Market won this prestigious award and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking those people who voted for Shoreham Farmers market.

Adur Council Chairman, Brian Coomber said: “We have always supported Shoreham Farmers' Market and believed it to be the best market in Sussex and now we have an award to prove it. Great news.”

The other markets in the running were Pulborough and Uckfield. Shoreham Farmers' Market was set up in 2001 with the support of Adur District Council and the local business partnership to assist in improving the viability, vitality and quality of Shoreham town centre. By attracting more visitors it has played its part in the town's renaissance over the last few years.

The Farmers' market, is now in its eighth year and boasts over 70 stalls, probably the largest in Sussex, offers local producers a retail outlet and encourages healthy eating and more environmentally friendly and sustainable food production methods.

Shoreham Farmers' Market takes place on the second Saturday of every month in East Street Shoreham 9am to 1pm.
