Ham Recreation Ground gets new skate park
Ref : 09/067 : Date : 03-08-2009
Adur Council is delighted to announce that Blakedown Landscapes (Operational)
Ltd will be building the new skate park this summer with a grand opening
planned for October.
Local skaters approached Adur council two years ago to see if they could have a skate park which happened to coincide with bidding for some lottery money. Since then Adur has been working with the local skaters user group, Big Lottery and Viridor funding groups to get the project off the ground.
The scheme costing £150.000 (£120,00 from Big Lottery and £30,000 from Viridor) to build includes a 'deep bowl' - unique for Sussex - and a 'street course'. Both features were designed by local skaters.
Canadian skatepark specialists Spectrum will supervise the build planned to start on 5 August 2009 and complete at the end of October.
Clive Bramble, project manager, said: "It will be a relief to finally see the project start and the grass being removed at the end of July I'm not a skater but even I can't wait to see this amazing design not only built but skated by local users who have waited 10 years to achieve their goal. That day will be here in October and worth all the effort."
To get skaters ready for this new facility the Council is running a ‘Mobile Skate Day’ at Kings Manor School on Wednesday 19 August 2009 so they can practice for the opening.
