Adur's 'pot of gold'

Ref : 09/085 : Date : 06-10-2009

pot of gold coinsAdur Council has a £100,000 pot of money ready and waiting to be spent on the best ideas put forward by Adur community groups, charities, voluntary organisations or residents associations.

This £100,000 has been earmarked from the council's budget and is seen as a great opportunity to get people involved. People are invited to put forward ideas to improve the district. The council wants to turn the great ideas of local people into reality. Successful projects could receive up to a maximum of £30,000.

Council Leader, Neil Parkin said: “We know there are lots of people in Adur with great ideas that would improve the district and we want to hear from them.”

The money has to be spent on improving community facilities, improving the appearance of the district or equipment.

Any Adur registered charity, community group, residents association or voluntary organisation can bid for the money. Residents can also put forward ideas for projects that they would like the council to carry out on their behalf. Closing date for bids is 13 November 2009.

All bids for projects will require a written application. All the bids will go before a panel made up from a cross party group of local councillors. This group will shortlist the bids on 18 December 2009.

At a community 'Pot of Gold' event in January 2010 those shortlisted will be invited to present their bids to an audience made up of members of the public drawn from the Adur Viewpoint residents' panel and the Adur cabinet. People will also be able to vote on-line.

The cabinet will ask questions and give their views then it is up to the audience to decide on their favourite projects. All recommendations will go before a Full Council, who will cast the deciding vote.
