Ref : 09/099 : Date : 02-12-2009
Graffiti on the streets of Adur and Worthing
is down. The figures for the last four months of the year (July, August,
September, October) compared to the same months in 2008 show a 44 percent
decrease in graffiti.
Adur and Worthing councils have a free graffiti removal service. At the moment 92 percent is cleaned off within two working days, the remainder being removed within the target of three working days. Offensive and racist graffiti is removed within one working day.
To keep graffiti down the councils are urging residents to report any graffiti, especially racist and offensive - the quicker it is reported the quicker it will be removed.
Taggers are being caught and prosecuted by the police and the council works with the police to gather evidence. Report the graffiti and help catch the taggers by calling the police on 0845 60 70 999.
The councils street scene officer Mike Barnard said: “Graffiti is anti social and unsightly and this scheme is part of the councils plans to support the health, safety and wellbeing of the two districts. We need your help to keep Adur and Worthing clean. Help us by reporting any graffiti to us as soon as it appears.”
Worthing Borough Council, Adur District Council and West Sussex County Council all contribute to the scheme.
People can report graffiti by:
