Council express sadness at factory closure in Shoreham

Adur Council would like to express their sadness and disappointment at the decision made by Edwards to close their Shoreham factory and move to Korea and the Czech Republic.

Edwards have said they intend to build a new research and development centre in Sussex. And the council plans to do everything they can to encourage the company to build this in Shoreham.

Edwards has a long history in Shoreham and the loss of so many jobs in the current climate is a real blow to those people, their families and to other businesses, some in Worthing.

Leader of the Council Neil Parkin said: ‘It is sad to hear that this long-standing business is moving its manufacturing abroad. I am keen to ensure that when Edwards decide to build its new research and development centre this is built in Shoreham and I will be meeting with Tim Loughton MP and senior members of West Sussex County Council to discuss these proposals.”

“I sympathise with all those people about to lose their jobs because as we know finding a new job in this economic climate is not easy. We will work with our partners to ensure every effort is made to help the people about to be made redundant to find new jobs or access retraining opportunities.
