New force to be reckoned with

The partnership who work together to keep crime low in Adur and Worthing are joining forces under a new name. From 26 January 2010 this partnership will be called the Adur and Worthing Safer Communities Partnership.
Partners in crime reduction include the police, councils, fire and rescue service, NHS West Sussex and the probation service.
Adur and Worthing are safe places to live and the two crime and disorder reduction partnerships, set up in 1998, have played their part in this achievement. Several groundbreaking projects have contributed to this testimony and include:
- There’s less graffiti on the streets of Adur and Worthing thanks to a joint contract.
- The Worth project based at Worthing hospital has helped hundreds of domestic violence victims and is recognised nationally as best practice.
- The Taxi Marshall project that provides a uniformed presence at the taxi rank in Worthing on a Friday and Saturday night.
- Drugs and alcohol initiatives that deliver support groups, 1-2-1 sessions and outreach work.
New joint projects are now in the pipeline and include the Family Intervention Project which will work with families who have entrenched and complex needs. And ‘weeks of action’ are planned, which will focus on making our communities safer and better places to live.
Excited about the new partnership arrangements joint Chairman Peter Latham said: “We are always looking for ways to improve an already good situation. The key to reducing crime and disorder lies in working with the community and we are developing better ways to improve the way we inform and listen to people. By working well together in the future this partnership can impact on people’s lives in a positive way.”
District Commander for Adur and Worthing, Chief Inspector James Asser, said: "It is vital that the police work closely alongside our partners and I believe merging the Safer Communities Partnerships will further improve the way we approach new initiatives.
“It is clear through all the successful work that has come out of our partnership so far that together, we really can lower crime and serve Sussex by continuing to make Adur and Worthing even safer."
As part of the launch of the Adur and Worthing Safer Communities Partnership, a roadshow will tour the area visiting events and activities promoting the work being delivered.
