Shoreham's unique skatepark bowl ready to open

Ref : 10/042 : Date : 05-05-2010

Skate park artist's impressionAdur's amazing and unique skatepark bowl at the Ham in Shoreham opens officially at 11am on May 8th 2010. Local skateboarders, who have been involved from the beginning, can’t wait to get their boards on the bowl.

A group of skaters have worked with Adur Council and the skatepark is a credit to their dedication and enthusiasm. This will be the first skatepark in Sussex to feature a 'deep bowl' and 'street course'.

The 'street course' is not quite complete but Adur's skaters are chomping on the bit to get on the bowl. Parks and project manager of the skatepark Clive Bramble said: “We were hoping to open the street course as well, but unfortunately there’s still a small amount of work to do to have it as perfect as we want. Adur’s skaters have been waiting patiently to get on the bowl so we decided not to keep them waiting any longer and to get it open."

“When we carried out the final surface smoothness testing a few days ago, before applying the final concrete hardener, it was the first time I saw how fantastic the Bowl skated and it was an incredible feeling of joy. The wait and frustrations have all been worth it and I am so thankful to everyone who has supported us through thick and thin to help us get this unique facility in Adur.”

From the skater group and Involved from the start of the project is Paul Parsons. He said: “We have always strived to bring something really special to our riders. Now I am proud to say, we have totally pulled it off! Shoreham skatepark will be a huge boost to the local and UK skate scene, all thanks to the dedication of the skatepark's steering group, Adur Council and all of our many supporters. Now enough talking....let's get rollin' ... ”

With £120,000 from the Big Lottery and £30,000 from Viridor, the project, which has taken longer than expected to complete, is now ready to be enjoyed by skateboarders.

Contractors Blakedown Landscapes (Operational) Ltd have built the Canadian Spectrum design.
