Be safe, be well during the school holidays
Ref : 10/062 : Date : 15-07-2010
School children in Adur and Worthing are having a day with a difference during the next week aimed to keep them safe and well during the summer holiday.
Adur and Worthing councils community wellbeing and the safer communities team have organised the be safe, be well days which will replace normal lessons for a day. The day is for young people in the first year of senior school and will provide them with practical information and guidance on issues that young people could face during the summer holidays.
Other organisations are joining in the days to get the be safe be well message across. The lesson's on offer are bike safety, including maintenance, drug and alcohol advice and information, Impulse Leisure will hold a sporty lesson, the fire service will show what it's like to be cut out of a car in a bad accident as part of a road safety lesson. A former prisoner will talk to the youngsters about what it's like when you go off the rails and end up doing time. There's a lesson on healthy eating and lessons on being safe during the summer holidays.
Adur and Worthing's community wellbeing officer, Tammy Waine said: "The feedback from the first day has been excellent with many positive comments from the young people. We all want our young people to have fun during the holiday and be safe."
The first be safe, be well day took place at the Shoreham Academy on 13th July 2010, the next is at the Sir Robert Woodard in Lancing on the 15th and Worthing High School will have theirs on the 21st.
