Exercise class on offer for stroke survivors under 60
Ref : 10/076 : Date : 01-09-2010
People who have suffered a stroke and are under 60 are being asked if they would like to take part in an exercise class designed specially for their needs. Adur and Worthing councils and the Sidney Walter Centre are working with the charity 'Different Strokes' to encourage younger stroke survivors to take up gentle exercise.
Stroke is the single largest cause of disability in the United Kingdom and 25 percent of the people who suffered a stroke are aged below 60. In Worthing 78 people under 65 will have a stroke each year.
Research has shown that gentle exercise to music improves balance and coordination as well as raising the general level of fitness.
Stroke survivors aged under 60, plus friends and families can come and find out more, meet the instructor and see the gym on Wednesday 8 September 2010 at 12 noon to 1pm at the Sidney Walter Centre, Sussex Road, Worthing. The plan is to set up a six week introductory programme following the meeting, if there’s enough demand.
