Holocaust Memorial Day for Adur and Worthing
Ref : 12/008 : Date : 17-01-2012
2012 Theme:
'Speak Up Speak Out' - Then they came for me. And there was no-one left to speak out for me…’
Friday 27 January 2012, 10am - 11am,
Adur Civic Centre, Ham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 6PR
Adur and Worthing will be, for the first time, holding a joint commemoration of the national Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday 27 January.
In commemorating the ‘Speak up Speak out’ theme for 2012, the event is welcoming local resident Bryan Huberman along to address the gathering. Bryan tells the story of how his father Alfred Huberman, who sadly passed away last year, survived the Holocaust.
Adur Council Chairman, Brian Boggis, will sign up to a Statement of Commitment on behalf of Adur residents and there will be some readings to reflect on former genocides.
Residents will be able to write their personal messages and place them on the Tree of Life Wall at the Civic Centre. The messages will then be forwarded to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust website www.hmd.org.uk.
After the commemoration the Worthing Mayor, Ann Barlow will return to Worthing to lay a wreath at the Worthing Holocaust Memorial Tree in Beach House Grounds at 11.30am where prayers will be said and the Jewish Kaddish recited.
All welcome!
