Website update

Adur District Council is a keen supporter of the Central Government programme for electronic or 'e'-government. To check our progress, a survey takes place each year of all local government websites, carried out by the Local Government Society of ICT managers (SOCITM). The latest ‘Better Connected’ survey was published in February 2007 and placed Adur's website in the second highest category 'Transactional', one of only twelve shire district councils to achieve this (out of 192 in England) . Only one council nationally was in the top ‘Excellent’ grade.

100% e-enablement

This was the original central government target set, meaning that all services should be accessible from the website by December 2005. Overall, we achieved 98% against the 100% goal by December 2005 with only a few exceptions for very obscure services or where we felt we couldn’t achieve the target without major disruption for little gain.

This included a full set of electronic forms (e-forms) to apply for all our services and pay on-line using your credit/debit card.

Accessibility

We are particularly pleased that we are highly rated for our continued work with accessibility standards. For further information see Good Communication Awards 2007 and Good Communication Awards 2006 and the accessibility section.

Coming initiatives

Systems solutions to allow 'interaction' between customers and our core systems. We aim to put the following software in place during 2008 to allow customer access to their data in these areas :

  • Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates Accounts, including e-billing
  • Housing and Council Tax Benefits, including e-claim
  • Planning Applications
  • Environmental Services (bin collections, street scene)
  • Housing Accounts and Repair Requests
  • Continuing activity via our Geographic Information System (GIS) to make more general information available
