Planning applications - South Downs National Park

South Downs National Park Authority logoFrom 1st April 2012 new planning and related constraint information will only appear on the South Downs National Park (SDNP) planning system (www.southdowns.gov.uk ) and any planning information before 1st April 2012 will remain on Adur District Council’s planning systems.

If you have any queries or require any planning information, from 1st April 2012 you will need to seek assistance from the SDNP authority for information and prior to this date to Adur District Council.

If you wish to submit comments on a planning application which has been submitted to the SDNP authority after 1st April 2012, you are welcome to e-mail: planning@adur-worthing.gov.uk or send us a letter and we will ensure it is correctly actioned.

Note: From 1st April 2012 any planning and related constraint information for properties and land within the South Downs National Park (SDNP) will be created and maintained by the SDNP authority, which will be supplied to this Council in order to complete a full local land charge search. If further details are required, your request should be sent to the SDNP. Any planning and related constraint information created prior to this date will be maintained by Adur District Council and queries relating to this data should be sent to Adur District Council.

How do I find out if I live within the South Downs National Park?

Please click on the 'Do I live in the National Park?' link below where you will be able to insert your postcode, and find out if your property, or application site, lies within the boundary of the South Downs National Park

Where do I submit my planning applications after 1 April 2011?

  • If you live within the National Park boundary you should continue to submit your planning applications to Adur District Council in the normal way.
  • If you submit your application through the Planning Portal, this will be routed to Adur District Council  who will deal with it on behalf of the SDNPA.

What happens next?

  • If the application is deemed ‘significant’ by the SDNPA then the application will be determined by a case officer at the SDNPA. Guidelines on ‘significance’ can be found in the 'called in applications' page on the South Downs National Park website (in a file called Agenda_Item_8_Appendix_1_20101203.pdf) (www.southdowns.gov.uk/planning/called-in-planning-applications). A list of applications that are being dealt with by officers at the SDNPA can be found in the planning section of the SDNPA website (www.southdowns.gov.uk/planning).
  • In your area all other (that is, most) applications will be determined by Adur District Council, working in partnership with the SDNPA. These applications will be decided by the Adur District Council  planning committee, or planning officer, in accordance with local provisions for officer delegation.
  • All communications regarding a planning application (letters, emails, phone calls) should be directed to Adur District Council, not the SDNPA.

How can I view applications that have been submitted to the South Downs National Park?

To search for planning applications that have been submitted from anywhere within the South Downs National Park boundary please see the SDNPA Planning website - View Planning Applications. You can search in a variety of different ways, including between specific dates, or within a specific local authority area, or for applications received and validated or decisions issued. You will be able to view the documents held for each planning application, as held on the Adur District Council website, and make comments (if the application is still open for receiving representations).
