Development briefs / planning briefs :
- Southlands Hospital Site Development Brief :
A development brief was adopted by the council in July 2000 to provide planning guidance for the disused western part of the Southlands Hospital site in Shoreham. This brief sets out the planning requirements for the redevelopment of the redundant land at the site. It covers appropriate land uses, layout and design for the new development, the relationship with adjacent uses and transport and landscaping. - 2-8 Tarmount Lane, Shoreham-by-Sea, Planning Brief :
This development brief was adopted by the Council at the end of March 2008 to provide planning guidance for the redevelopment of the Council owned site at 2-8 Tarmount Lane, Shoreham-By-Sea. The brief covers appropriate land uses, design and conservation issues, parking, and infrastructure requirements. - The Shoreham Waterside North - Interim Planning Guidance
:
This Interim Planning Guidance was adopted by the council in 2000 to provide a policy guidance framework for the north bank of the River Adur. The document highlights issues which need to be considered and addressed when preparing development proposals and applications. The north bank area provides a major opportunity to create a dynamic mixed-use riverfront extension of the town centre of Shoreham.

Good practice guide : Internal Space Standards for New Homes
Adequate space in and around new houses and flats is important to the health and wellbeing of residents. There needs to be adequate space to undertake normal household activities, allow household members some privacy within the dwelling, and allow children space to play that does not get in the way of other household activities. Housing that is of sufficient size also enables, subject to suitable design, increased adaptability and sustainability. It is desirable that it is built in a way and of a size that it can be adapted to meet the changing needs of residents over time. It allows a longer lifespan and thus contributes to sustainability through minimising unnecessarily premature redevelopment or major alteration.
This guidance has been produced in response to growing concerns over the small size of dwellings being built within Adur District, particularly flats, and about their ability to provide satisfactory living conditions and be sustainable in the longer term.
This Good Practice Guidance Note 'Internal Space Standards for New Homes' is intended as an interim measure until a policy is adopted in the Core Strategy, followed by a supplementary planning document (SPD) on external and internal space standards for new homes as part of the emerging new Adur District Local Development Framework.
Good practice guide : Houseboats
The houseboats of Shoreham are part of the town’s varied character
providing a unique type of housing. However, an important aim is to ensure
that the natural environment of this part of the river is conserved and enhanced.
Also important is to ensure that there is not a negative impact on the appearance
of the area and on residential amenity.
This Good Practice Guide has been produced to advise existing and future houseboat owners on the type of development and changes which are appropriate to the houseboats and those which are not taking account of the need to protect and enhance the river environment whilst respecting the unique characteristics of the houseboat community. It also provides useful advice and information on nature conservation, land drainage, flood risk management and pollution.

The Developer's Guide :
The Environment Agency are keen to help ensure that new development is as sustainable as possible and will therefore appreciate the opportunity to comment on your development proposals at an early stage.
The Environment Agency's guide for developers is designed to give practical advice on the environmental issues that may affect the site and provides some examples of sites where good practice has already been applied. Some of the topics covered in the guide include, managing the risk of flooding, using water wisely, wildlife and green space, managing waste and land affected by contamination.
