Adur Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment
Adur District Council has completed a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) as required by Government guidance set out in Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing. It is a key source of evidence which will inform the Local Development Framework (LDF) and will also be the starting point for the annual monitoring of housing land availability in the district.
The role of the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment is to identify sites with potential for housing development, assess their housing potential and estimate when they are likely to be developed. The document is an important evidence source to inform plan making, but Government guidance is very clear that the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment, in itself, does not determine whether a site should be allocated for housing development.
Adur District Council has undertaken Stages 1-6 set out in the Practice Guidance, including site surveys and identifying potential site yields. Consultants (Baker Associates) were appointed to undertake Stage 7 of the Guidance - assessing when and whether sites are likely to be developed. The Council then assessed the overall housing potential and supply as set out in Stages 8-10 of the Practice Guidance.
