A Statement of Community Involvement
The
Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out the Council';s policy for
engaging with the local community and stakeholders on the Adur Development
Plan and planning applications. It forms part of the Local Development Framework
and all future consultation undertaken on documents produced as part of the
local development framework process must be carried out in accordance with
the requirements set out in the SCI.
The SCI was submitted to the Secretary of State for examination on 27 March 2006 and a final six week period of public consultation was undertaken which ended on 8 May 2006. The representations received were forwarded to the independent Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State to examine the soundness of the SCI and the representations made. The Council was notified on 21 July 2006 by the Planning Inspectorate that a written representations examination would be carried out.

The Council amended the SCI in accordance with the Inspector's recommendations and formally adopted the SCI on14 December 2006. A copy of the adopted Statement of Community Involvement is available to view or download from this page, together with the Statement of Adoption.
Paper copies of the adopted SCI, the Inspectors report and the adoption statement are available to view at the Civic Centre, Lancing Area Office, Southwick Area Office, Sompting Community Centre and local libraries. Copies of the SCI can also be obtained by contacting the Planning and Policy Team.
Note :
- Any person aggrieved by the SCI may make an application to the High Court under Section 113 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Any challenge pursuant to Section 113 must be made on the grounds that the document is not within the appropriate power or a procedural requirement has not been complied with. An application under Section 113 must not be made later than the end of the period of six weeks starting from 14 December 2006.
- Any person aggrieved by the SCI may apply to the High Court for permission to apply for Judicial Review of the decision to adopt the statement. Any such application must be made promptly and in any event not later than three months from 14 December 2006.
