Procurement - statement and checklist
Statement
We will work pro-actively within our own organisation and with our partners, suppliers and contractors to create a high level of awareness of environmental issues.
Procurement decisions
Where practical, we will seek to:
- comply with all environmental legislative and regulatory requirements when buying goods, works and services (see EU rules relating to environmental issues in contracts for an overview of EU procurement rules)
- integrate the environment into procurement decisions using our Environmental Procurement Checklist
- raise staff awareness on environmental issues relating to procurement by providing relevant information and training
Working with suppliers and contractors
Where practical, we will seek to :
- ensure that suppliers and contractors are aware of our Environmental Procurement Checklist, to promote environmental awareness among them and to encourage them to minimise the environmental impacts of the supply chain
- work with suppliers and contractors to increase the amount of environmentally preferable products and services available to the Council
Disposal
Where practical, we will seek to :
- ensure that existing goods and equipment are reused before procurement is considered
- dispose of unwanted goods through (preferably) local organisations that are able to reuse and recycle them
- dispose of all waste generated by procurement in the most environmentally responsible manner possible.
Checklist
All staff should refer to Adur's adopted Environmental Policy Statement 2000 before purchasing goods, works and services :
Goods
Using the above criteria, you should decide what the environmental impact of the goods or services will be over their lifespan (ie from the time goods are made, to the time they are disposed of by us).
Works and services
When procuring works and services, refer to the checklist above to minimise potential environmental impacts.
