Implementation
On 4th April 2006, Adur District Council Members agreed that officers
establish a Shoreham Renaissance task group to progress implementation
of the Shoreham Renaissance Strategy. The group is called the 'Shoreham
Renaissance Project Advisory Board' and the first meeting took place on
3rd May 2006 chaired by Adur's Chief Executive, Ian Lowrie.
The Group has taken advantage of an opportunity to bid for funds from
the West Sussex Coastal Area Investment Framework's "5 Town Network"
project. If successful, this fund will support the implementation of the
Shoreham Renaissance Strategy. An investment from the Area Investment Framework
of £203k has been requested. The proposal is to match this with £205k
of capital investment from Adur DC over the next 3 years. The outcome of
this bid will be known in September 2006.
In the meantime, Adur District Council has been successful in securing
funding through the Brighton, Hove and Adur Area Investment Framework,
to employ a Major Projects Officer for 2 years. This officer has been in
post since April 2006 and is engaged in discussions and negotiations with
land owners and other partners to assess the viability of bringing forward
sites seen as representing development opportunities in the Strategy.
The group will also seek to improve the engagement of businesses in the
implementation of the Strategy, a recommendation flagged up during the
evaluation stage of the masterplanning process. Officers have discussed
this with business members of the Adur Economic Partnership and also with
representatives of Worthing First, our neighbouring business association.
Further discussions with Shoreham town traders and local members of Sussex
Enterprise (the Chamber of Commerce for Sussex) are planned.
