Shoreham Food and Drink Festival 2009 - A celebration of great food and drink

Shoreham Food and Drink Festival logoThe Shoreham Summer Food and Drink Festival will consist of a week of celebrating great food and drink with a host of great events.

Shoreham Farmers' Market: East Street and St Mary's Road
Saturday 13th June, 9am to 4pm

On Saturday the Farmers' Market, will take place in East Street with a focus on fresh local food, drink and produce. The largest regular Farmers Market in Sussex will have over 70 producers selling a wide range including meat, fish, chicken, honey, bread, cheese, plants, tomatoes, vegetables, cakes, pies, wine, beer, cider as well.

Speciality Food and Drink Fair: Festival Marquee, Coronation Green
Saturday 13th June, 9am to 4pm and
Sunday 14th June, 11am to 4pm

Local and regional producers and suppliers of Speciality Food and Drink will be promoting and sampling a wide range of quality food and drink in the Festival marquee and stalls on Coronation Green. There will also be Arts Craft and charity fundraising stalls and Cooking demonstrations with local food throughout the weekend.

Italia in Piazza’s Real Italian Food Market: East Street
Sunday 14th June, 11am to 4pm

Italian flagOn Sunday sample the delights from Italy when East Street, will be transformed into a bustling continental market place.

Professional continental traders will be selling a wide range of foods from Italy including Cheeses, Cured Meats, and Herbs & Pasta. Olives and Sott’Olii, Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Balsamic Vinegars and the famous Torrone e Cioccolata cake and lots more.

Southwick Annual Charity Fair, Southwick Green
Saturday 11th July 2009

This is an all day event held on Southwick Green, where charities and community groups from Adur and throughout Sussex come along to either raise much needed funds, recruit members or volunteers, or simply promote their activities. In addition to the numerous stalls there is a kiddies funfair.

Cost per stall is £6, but for those who are not fundraising and are recruiting or promoting there is no charge.

Invitations are sent out during January/February but should any group or genuine fundraiser wish to take part, for more details and an application form please contact the organiser :

Shoreham Rugby Club Open Fun Day
Sunday 20th July 2008 : 2pm till 5pm

Buckingham Park, Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea.

There will be great activities for children and adults. Special events include a Bucking Rugby Ball, an inflatable assault course, a penalty shoot-out, rugby rounders and the stocks.

For the less active there will be refreshments, raffles and quiet areas to enjoy whilst the children burn off their energy.

Fire and Road Safety Fete
Thursday 30th July 2009 : 1pm to 5pm

Fishersgate Recreation Ground, Brighton Road, Fishersgate.

Definite attractions : Interactive Fire Safety Funbus, Inflatable Football Goal, the Chip Pan Demo Unit and the Firebike - as well as the operational Fire Engine on the day.

Other possible attractions : Police/PCSO's, Lifeboat guys, face-painting, bouncy castles, burger/food vans, stalls etc., tug-of-war contest or a game rounders.

Free entry - voluntary donations to the Firefighters Charity.

Remembrance Sunday Events

Royal British Legion logoIn the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday of November, the Sunday nearest to 11 November (Remembrance Day), which is the anniversary of the end of the hostilities of the First World War at 11am on 11 November in 1918.

Civic Heads and Councillors from Adur District Council will be present at the events below to lay wreaths and support the Remembrance Sunday commemoration.

Shoreham (2008) :

  • 9.45am - Royal British Legion Parade leaves Community Centre, Pond Road
  • 10:00am - Remembrance Service at St. Mary de Haura
  • 11:00am - Wreath Laying Ceremony at War Memorial

Southwick (2008) :

  • 11:00am - Service at War Memorial on Southwick Green

Lancing (2008) :

The Rowland Singers Carol Concert,
Tuesday 16th December 2008 : 7.30pm

Christmas bellsLancing Parish Hall, South Street Lancing, BN15 8AJ.

The Rowland Singers (based in Goring) will present a Carol Concert, comprising a mix of traditional carols including 'Come all ye faithful', 'The First Noel' and 'Hark the herald angels sing' (where audience participation is actively encouraged!), together with some more modern popular seasonal ballads, such as 'White Christmas' and 'Jingle Bells'.

The main feature will be a performance of Benjamin Britten's 'Ceremony of Carols'.

Jacqueline Emery conducts and the accompanists will be Helen Emery and Jennifer Rudd.

Refreshments will be available.

There will be a Prize based on a Lucky Programme number.

Event organised by The Rowland Singers (Choral Society), Registered Charity No. 1122131.

Prices: Adults: £6; Children (under 16): £2. Tickets can be ordered in advance by contacting Helen Emery (contact details and e-mail address available on the Rowland Singer's website below). Any unsold tickets remaining will be available for purchase at the door.

Christmas bellsThe Chairman of the Council is inviting all Adur residents to a Christmas Celebration Service of Carols and Readings at St Mary de Haura Church in Shoreham-by-Sea.

The service this year is guaranteed to get you in the Christmas mood with carols, festive readings and music.

The service will commence at 6:30pm and people are invited to join the Chairman for mulled wine and mince pies after the service.
