Shoreham Farmers' Market
2nd Saturday of the month throughout the year : 9am to 1pm

The Shoreham Farmers' Market selling local Sussex produce takes place in East Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, between 9am and 1pm every second Saturday of the month.

The market normally has around 45 stalls selling a wide range of local fresh produce and goods.

At our next surgery we will have our laptop with us. This is a initiative where we show members of the public images of offenders, in the hope of getting an identification.

  • The show consists of exhibits of flowers, pot plants and vegetables.
  • Also a number of different stalls which include a raffle and tombola.
  • At the end of the show there will be a presentation of trophies and auction of produce left by exhibitors.
  • The entry fee is 30p.

MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it programme)
starting on Monday 22nd February 2010 for 10 weeks
(not including the Easter holidays)

Adur's latest childhood obesity programme will be starting on Monday 22nd February at Southwick Leisure Centre, 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

The free 10 week programme for 8 to 14 year olds combines exercise with nutrition and psychological advice for the whole family.

Adur Multisports Club
starting Wednesday 24th February 2010 for 10 weeks

A 10 week multisports club for young people aged 8 to 14 with special needs and disabilities starts on Wednesday 24th February 4pm to 5pm at Southwick Leisure.

This project was funded through 'Sport Unlimited' and will consist of activities such as football, boccia, new age curling, circuits, and other fun based activities.

Coming out in the 1960s and 1970s: a personal account of gay life in Sussex
Thursday 25th February 2010

Mark Rowlands of Brighton Ourstory LGB History Centre will be speaking out his experiences. This is an event for LGBT History Month and all are welcome. The talk will be accompanied by an exhibition from the Ourstory archives and LGBT library books to borrow.

Drinks from 6.30pm. Event 7.00pm - 8.30pm.

Boxing
starting Friday 5th March 2010 - for 10 weeks
(not including Good Friday)

Funding from the Adur and Worthing Safer Communities Partnership and Sport Unlimited have made it possible to run an introduction to boxing programme. This diversionary 10 week programme will start on Friday 5th March at Southwick Leisure Centre.

This will be a joint project with Adur Boxing Club, Impulse Leisure plus the schools, police, fire service, etc.

Separate female and male sessions will take place :

  • Girl's session - 7pm to 8pm
  • Boy's session - 8pm to 9pm

£2.00 per session - first session is FREE.

Off the couch and on the pitch
starting on Thursday 18th March 2010 for 10 weeks

FootballA football project targeting unemployed males will be piloted in Sompting starting on March 18th 10.30am to 12.30pm at Sompting Recreation Ground, every Thursday for 10 weeks.

This project will combine football skills and fitness run by Brighton and Hove Albion FC followed by a post match team talk consisting of health job seeking, IT and future training and education advice.

This project has gained funding from the Learning Skills Council.

Shoreham Farmers' Market: East Street and St Mary's Road
Saturday 13th June 2009 : 9am to 4pm

On Saturday the Farmers' Market, will take place in East Street with a focus on fresh local food, drink and produce. The largest regular Farmers Market in Sussex will have over 70 producers selling a wide range including meat, fish, chicken, honey, bread, cheese, plants, tomatoes, vegetables, cakes, pies, wine, beer, cider as well.

 

Speciality Food and Drink Fair: Festival Marquee, Coronation Green
Saturday 13th June 2009 : 9am to 4pm and
Sunday 14th June 2009 : 11am to 4pm

Local and regional producers and suppliers of Speciality Food and Drink will be promoting and sampling a wide range of quality food and drink in the Festival marquee and stalls on Coronation Green. There will also be Arts Craft and charity fundraising stalls and Cooking demonstrations with local food throughout the weekend.

 

Italia in Piazza’s Real Italian Food Market: East Street

Italian flagOn Sunday sample the delights from Italy when East Street, will be transformed into a bustling continental market place.

Southwick Annual Charity Fair, Southwick Green

2010 will be the 25th year in which Southwick's Annual Charity Fair is being held on Southwick Green. Fair organiser, Beryl Ferrers-Guy wants to make it the best ever, thereby giving local community groups and charities the opportunity to publicise their activities and raise much needed funds. She is hopeful that some of the community groups will, in addition to fundraising stalls provide exhibitions and displays.

As usual, invitations will be sent to as many groups as possible during February but Beryl is anxious to include as many of those groups who haven't taken part in previous years by inviting them to either telephone or email her. Fundraising stalls cost £6 per pitch, exhibitions/displays are free of charge.

Remembrance Sunday Events

Royal British Legion logoIn the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday of November, the Sunday nearest to 11 November (Remembrance Day).

Remembrance Sunday is the anniversary of the end of the hostilities of the First World War at 11am on 11 November in 1918.

Civic Heads and Councillors from Adur District Council will be present at the events below to lay wreaths and support the Remembrance Sunday commemoration.

Royal British Legion Shoreham Branch :

  • 9:30am - Assemble at the Community Centre, Pond Road.
  • 9:45am - March off via Western Road and Brunswick Road to the Church of St. Mary de Haura.
  • 10:00am - Remembrance Service led by Reverend Victor Standing.
  • 11:00am - Wreath Laying Ceremony (including Last Pose, 2 minute Silence and Reveille) at War Memorial.

Royal British Legion Southwick Branch :

  • 10:30am - Parade leaves Southwick Square car park.
  • 11:00am - Service at War Memorial on Southwick Green.

Royal British Legion Lancing Branch :

  • 2:45pm - Wreath laying at War Memorial, South Street, Lancing.
  • 3:00pm - Service at St. Michael's and All Angels Church followed by a parade past civic dignitaries to take salute.

An exhibition of a diverse range of watercolours, pastels, oil on canvas, photography, sculpture and a wonderful eclectic mix of subjects in a professional environment.

The exhibition will open on the evening of Tuesday 8th December from 5pm - 9pm (which is the Shoreham Town Christmas Extravaganza Open Evening). It will then be open on a daily basis from 10am until 6pm (4pm on the two Sundays) and close at 1pm on Christmas Eve.

Market stall selling olivesItalian flagOn Sunday sample the delights from Italy when East Street, will be transformed into a bustling continental market place.

Professional continental traders will be selling a wide range of foods from Italy including: Cheeses; Cured Meats; Herbs and Pasta; Olives and Sott’Olii; Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Balsamic Vinegars; and the famous Torrone e Cioccolata cake, and lots more.

 

Live Musical Entertainment

During the weekend Live music will be provided by :

  • 'The Priory St Stardusters' with swing Jazz from the ’30s and ’40s
  • 'Shenanigan', the Irish Folk Band
  • Christmas Carols sung by local schools and organisations

 

Event organised by Adur Town Centres and Street Scene Coordinator as part of the Adur Town Centres Initiative.

Chairman's Christmas Celebration Service of Carols and Readings

The Chairman of the Council is inviting all Adur residents to a Christmas Celebration Service of Carols and Readings at St Mary de Haura Church in Shoreham-by-Sea.

The service this year is guaranteed to get you in the Christmas mood with carols, festive readings and music.

The service will commence at 6:30pm and people are invited to join the Chairman for mulled wine and mince pies after the service.
