Concessionary travel scheme
The
council's concessionary travel scheme enables local residents who are elderly
or disabled to use public and community transport services more affordably.
To claim : Clients must be permanent residents within Adur and qualify through one or more of the following criteria :
- Aged 60 or over
- Blind or partially sighted
- Having a long-term disability, which substantially impairs ability to walk
- Profoundly or severely deaf or without speech
- Significant learning disability
- Refused a driving licence on medical grounds
- Without the use of both arms
The scheme offers a choice of one of the following :
- English National Bus Pass
providing free local bus travel throughout England (between 9:30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and anytime weekends and bank holidays).
The pass is free.
Exchange
order for a Senior Citizens Railcard
providing approximately one-third reduction on most national rail fares.
Price £9.- Travel vouchers
to the value of £15 for use on local taxis, Dial-a-Ride, Adur Community Transport and the WRVS Cars and Companions scheme.
Note : these vouchers are not accepted by bus and train companies. - Exchange order for a Disabled Persons Railcard
providing approximately one-third reduction on most national rail fares.
Price £5.
Additional disability criteria apply with respect to this railcard.
For people who are unable to use public transport without a companion, there is the additional option below :
- English National Companion Bus Pass
providing free local bus travel throughout England (between 9:30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and anytime weekends and bank holidays) for a client who is unable to travel without a companion. The pass offers free travel for one companion when the journey on that bus starts within the areas of Adur, Worthing and Arun; any journey on that bus starting outside of these areas will require the companion to pay the appropriate fare (unless they have their own bus pass). The pass is free.
All new clients must provide proof that they meet one or more of these criteria, in the form of official documentation.

Note : Applications are normally dealt with by post. When submitting your application can you please ensure that you only submit copies of evidence of eligibility and not original documents. Adur District Council can not be held responsible if any original documents are lost in the post. Any copies that are provided will be securely destroyed.
