Household refuse - wheelie bins, bins and sacks

Note
: From 1st April 2008 the recycling and refuse service has been run
by Adur & Worthing Council Services (AWCS).
Adur District Council currently makes weekly household waste and recycling collections.
The new collection service using wheelie bins for recycling and refuse began in parts of Adur in April 2008. The majority of Adur residents also swapped over to the new wheeled bin service during 2008.
Update Phase 4 : Lancing, North Lancing and Sompting - due to start in January 2009 - This is the final shipment of wheelie bins to the remaining residents of Adur (and Worthing) that don’t have them at the moment. In some cases (eg blocks of flats) the council will provide communal wheelie bins to the occupants instead of black sacks. See leaflet for details of deliveries, roadshows and exhibitions :

Sorting your refuse :
Your household waste must be sorted into recylable and non-recyclable items, and if you have one please remember to use your composting bin to help further reduce your waste :
Items suitable for recycling :
These must be washed out, and if possible squashed flat (we can then get more into our recycling collection vehicles and make fewer trips), and then put out in your blue lidded wheelie bin - find out more about the recycling scheme and what can be recycled. Remember : The more you can recycle and compost the less will end up in landfill sites.
Other non-recyclable household waste :
These items must be put out in the general waste wheelie bin (or communal bins) provided by the council.
Putting your refuse and recycling out ready for collection :
Once sorted your household waste must be put out on the front boundary of your property close to the pavement in a clearly visible location (or in your bin store if that's where it's normally collected from) ready for collection by 6:30am on the morning of your collection day, please avoid blocking paths or other public areas - if you don't know which day it is for you then use our collection day pages to find out.
To help protect the people collecting your refuse and recycling from injury :
Please be careful how you dispose of any broken glass and sharp objects.
To help protect your local neighbourhood :
Please ensure that all items you put out for collection are put out neatly and will not be easily blown around or spread about by animals and birds.
Items not taken by the weekly collections :
Not all items can be taken by the household refuse collection teams - for more details see the following pages :
