Waste and recycling
Nappies
Disposable nappies make up 2-3% of all household waste, and 50% of waste
in a household with babies.
Nappies disposed of in landfill site can take up to 50 years to decompose.
West Sussex County Council offers a financial incentive for choosing to use real nappies, which are fitted cotton nappies that can be laundered and re-used time and time again. The County Council will make a payment of up to £30 for each child in real nappies if you register with a nappy laundering service or if you choose to wash the nappies at home.
