The Municipal Waste Management Strategy for West Sussex 2004 to 2009
The amount of waste generated in the County is increasing every year. Currently, over 460,000 tonnes of municipal waste are managed in West Sussex; this is enough to fill the Albert Hall more than six times. Of this rubbish, around 375,000 tonnes is buried in the ground.
It will take the efforts of everyone in West Sussex to win the battle against the growing amounts of waste produced in the County. The Municipal Waste Management Strategy for West Sussex is a partnership project between the County, District and Borough Councils of West Sussex, supported by the Environment Agency. It aims to give a focus to the work carried out across the County to cut waste and recycle more.
A consultation took place in August and September 2003 on the proposed principles and targets for the Strategy and other waste issues. The results of the consultation are available to download below (click "Consultation Results" for the file).
A draft version of the Strategy has now been developed and is under consideration by the partner authorities. A summary of this draft is available to download below, if you would like a copy of the full document (100 pages, 4 mb) please use the contact details below. It is planned to adopt the Strategy by the end of March 2004.
