Collection day changes over the Christmas and New Year period :

AWS logoThere will not be any household recycling or refuse collections on:

For full details about changes to the following collection services :

Recycling Centres and Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRS) :

Some tips to help make your Christmas more environmentally friendly :

  • Please refer to your Recycling & Refuse Collection Service Leaflet for changes in collection days over the Christmas and New Year period.
  • Real Christmas trees - a free kerbside Christmas Tree collection will operate from 9th January 2012. Please leave your tree in a safe and visible place for collection on your normal collection day for the crews to pick up. Please ensure that the tree is completely stripped of decorations as these are sent to a composting facility for reprocessing and it cannot cope with angels or tinsel! For large trees it would be helpful if you could cut them into smaller pieces. Alternatively, take them along to your local HRWS (Household Waste Recycling Site).
  • Wrapping paper (not metallic) can be recycled in your blue lidded bin, or reused.
  • Greetings cards can be recycled in your blue lidded bin. Alternatively, cut into gift tags for Christmas next year.
  • As well as recycling paper and cards a lot more glass, cans and plastic bottles will be used over the festive period please recycle in your blue wheeled bin.
  • Alternatively, take to the HWRS (Household Waste recycling Sites at Brighton Road Shoreham.
  • Buy Christmas trees with roots so they can be planted in the garden in spring or alternatively buy an artificial Christmas tree that can be used year after year.
  • Buy rechargeable instead of disposable batteries.
  • Compost fruit and vegetable peelings from the preparation of Christmas dinner.
  • Reuse your old Christmas greetings cards and make new ones (or present tags) for next year, alternatively recycle them in your blue box or recycling wheelie bins.
  • Christmas wrappings can also be put in with your recycling waste.
  • Don’t forget to recycle all your glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic shaped bottles over the Christmas and New Year period.
  • Compost all those vegetable peelings when preparing your Christmas dinner.
  • Use rechargeable batteries for all those new electric toys.
  • Take any unwanted gifts or clothing items to the charity shop.
  • Make a new year's resolution to recycle and compost more (or to start recycling/composting if you do not already do so).

For more information about waste and recycling please see the www.aws.gov.uk website.
