Your council

Christmas and New Year's opening hours 2007


Civic Centre, other offices and telephone switchboard

The Civic Centre council offices will close at 3:00pm on Monday 24th December 2007 (Christmas Eve) and re-open again on Wednesday 2nd January 2008.

The cash offices at the Civic Centre, and Lancing and Southwick local offices will close at 3:00pm on Monday 24th December 2007 (Christmas Eve) and re-open again on Wednesday 2nd January 2008.

The housing offices at Lancing and Southwick will close at 3:00pm on Monday 24th December 2007 (Christmas Eve) and re-open again on Wednesday 2nd January 2008.

Telephone iconThe telephone switchboard will close at 3:00pm on Monday 24th December 2007 (Christmas Eve) and re-open again on Wednesday 2nd January 2008.

Leisure centres

Adur Watch

Adur Watch provides a 365 day a year service (from 7:30am - 6:30pm) and this continues over the Christmas and New Year period. There is, however, a limited service on Christmas Day.

Building services

Note : Dates and times for 2007 are still to be announced - in 2006 they were as follows and should be similar in 2007 :

Building services will operate as normal until 5:00pm on Friday 22nd December 2006. There will be no in hours working, but normal emergency cover via Duty Supervisor from 5:00pm on Friday 22nd December 2006 until 9:00am Tuesday 2nd January 2007.

Parks and cemeteries

The parks office closes for the Christmas period in line with the Civic Centre opening hours. A limited grounds maintenance service is still provided to cater for the football fixtures that continue over this period.

The cemeteries service closes for the Christmas period and all funeral directors are notified (the duty supervisor's number is available).

These will operate as normal throughout the Christmas period with the exception of Christmas Day when there will be no service.

Recycling and refuse collections (and Christmas trees)

Collection day changes at Christmas and New Year 2007/08 :

Note : No collections on Christmas Day (Tuesday 25th Dec), Boxing Day (Wednesday 26th Dec) or New Year's Day (Tuesday 1st Jan)

  • If your collection date falls on : Tuesday 25th December 2007
    It will change to : Thursday 27th December 2007
    And then to : Friday 4th January 2008
  • If your collection date falls on : Wednesday 26th December 2007
    It will change to : Friday 28th December 2007
    And then to : Monday 7th January 2008
  • If your collection date falls on : Thursday 27th December 2007
    It will change to : Monday 31st December 2007
    And then to : Tuesday 8th January 2008
  • If your collection date falls on : Friday 28th December 2007
    It will change to : Wednesday 2nd January 2008
  • If your collection date falls on : Monday 31st December 2007
    It will change to : Thursday 3rd January 2008
     
  • Your new collection day will then remain on the same day of the week until Easter 2008

 

Some tips to help make your Christmas environmentally friendly :

  • Christmas treeTake your real Christmas trees to one of the recycling compounds these will be chipped and used on parks and gardens within the district (see our green waste webpage for Christmas tree recycling points).
  • Reuse your Christmas greetings cards and make new ones (or present tags) for next year, alternatively recycle them in your blue box.
  • Christmas wrappings can also be put into your blue box and recycled.
  • Don’t forget to recycle all glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic shaped bottles over the Christmas and New Year period.
  • Compost all those peelings when preparing your Christmas dinner.
  • Use rechargeable batteries for all those new electric toys.
  • Take any unwanted gifts or clothing items to the charity shop.
  • Make a new year's resolution to recycle and compost more (or to start recycling/composting if you do not already do so).
