Some tips to help make your Christmas environmentally friendly :
Take
your real Christmas trees to one of the recycling
compounds these will be chipped and used on parks and gardens within the
district (see
our green waste webpage for Christmas tree recycling points).- Reuse your Christmas greetings cards and make new ones (or present tags) for next year, alternatively recycle them in your blue box.
- Christmas wrappings can also be put into your blue box and recycled.
- Don’t forget to recycle all glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic shaped bottles over the Christmas and New Year period.
- Compost all those peelings when preparing your Christmas dinner.
- Use rechargeable batteries for all those new electric toys.
- Take any unwanted gifts or clothing items to the charity shop.
- Make a new year's resolution to recycle and compost more (or to start recycling/composting if you do not already do so).
(For more information see the waste and recycling webpages).
Street cleaning
This will operate as normal throughout the Christmas period with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day when there will be no service.
